After graduating from Florida State University with a 2.4 GPA and a Bachelor’s Degree in International Affairs I set out, as lost as I came in, to figure out what it is I wholeheartedly want to spend the rest of my life doing.
I have experience in advertising and public relations as an intern, account coordinator, creative services coordinator, print production manager, and experiential marketing / events assistant. I was fortunate enough to learn the ropes in an international marketing environment with flagship accounts such as Adidas, Diageo (Johnnie Walker, Jose Cuervo, Buchanans), FedEx, Amex, Viewsonic, The Knight Foundation, and more. They all taught a great deal in developing international and local marketing campaigns and gave me a clear understanding of the marketing process in its entirety, from client briefings and brainstorms to implementation and summary reports.
I dedicated 1 year to developing my own small online marketing agency called bViral, where I provided graphic and web design, copywriting, and online marketing solutions through social media and search engine marketing for Miami’s small business sector. I developed a politically focused blog, www.TheMcCainObamaVirals.com, which kept people up to date on the latest political viral videos (6,000 visitors/mo). Complimenting the blog I set up a twitter account called @TheRealMcCain, which tracks the latest fact revealing news articles of McCain’s campaign – promoting Barack Obama’s presidential candidacy (800 followers). I also initially co-founded Know Thy City – a socially interactive, integrated arts and entertainment media / promotions and artist development company, which covers the Miami’s underground music and arts scene and caters to local youth (I left before it took off). I have learned a tremendous amount about the marketing industry as a whole and the many facets of traditional and new media marketing, but I realize the marketing industry, as essential as it is, is not what I thought it would be. With my start-ups in the backburner, I am now eager to jump back into the profession I have always considered my true calling – law.
In pursuit of my newly declared career in Law I have moved to the Mecca of Law and the heart of our government, the District of Columbia. Since I arrived late May, I have joined the Hispanic National Bar Association and the Hispanic Bar Association of the District of Columbia as an associate member and enrolled in LSAT preparation courses with Test Masters. Currently, I am attending a Paralegal Certification Program with the Paralegal Institute of Washington DC and expect to be fully prepared and certified in 10 weeks. I have gotten a chance to view surrounding law schools and discussed my plans with Georgetown Law deans and senior administrators. I plan to apply to the Georgetown Law Center, George Washington University Law School, and many others for Fall 2010 to study Corporate, Real Estate, and International Law. In the mean time my goal is to educate myself as thoroughly as possible in order to establish myself as a likely candidate for any law school.
I assure you that my drive to learn and develop my new career in law combined with my well-rounded marketing experience is sure to be an intersting and engaging read. I hope you enjoy Blawgazeen, and feel free to contact me for any questions or suggestions at any of my social profiles.
